National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week runs from November 2nd through November 8th. It is celebrated every year in the first week of November and was founded by The Humane Society of the United States in 1996. In honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, at Rufus and Delilah, we want to encourage everyone to do something special to support your local pet shelters and rescues.
We called one of our favorite local pet shelters, Pet Orphans of Southern California, located in Van Nuys, California and asked what items they are seeking for donation. Many of the items Pet Orphans of Southern California need are what other shelters would also request in case you want to make a donation too.
Items Needed For Donation
- Dry or wet food for dogs and cats
- Treats for dogs and cats
- Martingale collars in all sizes
- Leashes
- Towels
- Blankets
- Dog beds
- Toys
When donating food or treats, please check the expiration date to make sure the food is still good. If donating previously used items, such as blankets, towels, or dog beds, it is best to deliver them clean.
To show our appreciation, Rufus and Delilah made the below donation on Sunday, November 2nd to Pet Orphans of Southern California of dog kibble, canned cat food, leashes, collars, towels, blankets, and toys for dogs and cats.
We asked our friends at Pets, Naturally in Sherman Oaks if they wanted to donate any items to Pet Orphans of Southern California in celebration of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week. Marie Sabatine generously gave treats and toys for both dogs and cats.
Will you help celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week? What will you donate to your local pet shelters or rescues?
